Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

Cornerstones Topic

This topic will take us on a journey of discovery, meeting lots of characters along the way.
We will explore fairy tales and will meet Rapunzel who lives in a tall, tall tower. Then, we will dig deep, deep down, making burrows and tunnels just like the animals underground.
We might even be lucky enough to meet three little pigs who need our help to build a strong fortress to protect them from a big, bad, wolf.

Power of Reading

Throughout the year, we will be continuing our journey to becoming fluent and competent readers. We will be exploring new materials, reading new books, learning new sounds and having fun along the way.

In Maths, we will be looking at place value and addition/subtraction. We will be using numbers to 20 and making sure we are confident with things we previously learned.  We will be making sure we use the correct vocabulary to talk about maths.

We will be exploring a range of musical instruments, learning the technical names and having fun creating our own music – we like to be unique.

This half term in PE we will be developing our fundamental movement skills. This includes running, jumping, hopping, balancing and co-ordination. We will apply these skills when we are playing a variety of games.

Will it degrade?
We will be describing objects including naming the materials they are made from.  We will be doing lots of sorting materials by their different properties.  We will do experiments on the materials and begin to record data and reach conclusions.

In RE, we will be studying some religions’ beliefs about creation and looking at some holy books.

This half term in Computing we will be developing the skills necessary to log onto the computer using our own username and password. We will also be using the internet to research castles and using a paint programme to design our own.
