Power of Reading

During the Spring term, we will be reading Poppy Pym and the Pharaoh’s Curse.. The writing we produce throughout the weeks will be topic related. Ensuring that all of our writing is cross curricular will help us to get to know the Egyptians even better and the main characters from our Power of Reading text. Within our English lessons we will be writing a persuasive letter, newspaper report and a narrative story to name but a few activities!

In Maths, we will be looking at fractions, decimals and percentages. We will be practising our fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. Then finishing off the term with statistics and Geometry skills. We will be looking at translations and reflections.
Learning our Times Tables is crucial if we are going to make great progress in all our Maths this year.

All the children in Y5 will continue to have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder. They will be learning to read simple musical notes and play in a group. They will also enjoy learning new topic related songs and be able to perform them to the whole school

In Science, we will be looking at the topic of MATERIALS. We will learn about changing starts, reversible and irreversible changes and how to separate mixtures. We will be carrying out fair tests and being scientists.
