Frozen Kingdom

Cornerstones Topic

Our topic this term is Frozen Kingdom.  We will be learning all about the Arctic and Antarctic and will be using globes and atlases to locate these places and other significant geographical features of the world. For art we will be looking at the beautiful artwork of the Inuit, the Arctic’s indigenous people, and taking inspiration from their native style, to make a simple soap carving.  We will also be attempting to male our own igloo!!

Power of Reading

During this term we will be reading ‘Shackleton’s Journey.   This is the epic true story of how Ernest Shackleton  and his crew managed to survive crossing the frozen heart of Antarctica.  Our writing will be based on this book and we will be a balanced argument as well as a newspaper report.


In Maths we will be covering work on decimals, percentages and algebra and ratio and we will be solving problems in relation to all of these.  We will be working hard for our SATs so we need to male sure we are continuing to learn out times tables at home.


We will be learning lots of different songs during this term and we will be performing them as a class.


In PE the children will be developing the skills and understanding to enable them to play hockey. The children will learn how to receive and pass the ball and will be involved in small-sided games.


In Science we will be identifying how animals and plants are adapted to suit their environment in different ways and considering how adaptation may lead to evolution. We will be learning how to classify living things into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro- organisms, plants and animals.


This term we will be focusing on:
How and why do religious people celebrate festivals? (emphasis on Baisakhi)
What food the Chinese like to eat, especially at New Year and why.
What symbols are associated with Easter and what they mean.


Office assessment and Mindstorms – Hydro Challenge
During this term we will be creating our own learning portfolio. This will cover all aspects of Microsoft office.
