Burps, Bottoms and Bile

Cornerstones Topic

Open wide – let’s take a look inside!

We’re on a voyage of discovery to investigate the busy world inside your body!

Make a working model of the digestive system and use it to persuade others to eat healthily. Learn how to look after this marvellous belching, squelching, mixture-making machine we call our body.

Our topic for next term is burps, bottoms and bile and is a very science based topic that looks at the workings of the body and different things that can affect this.

Power of Reading

During the term, we will be reading “The Marvellous Adventure of Edward Tulane’. All of our writing will be topic related and we are so excited to predict what each book will be about and get to know the characters, setting and plot. We will cover a variety of different genres all linked to this book.

In Maths, we will be looking at additions, subtraction and multiplication. We will also be looking at money, area and perimeter. We will use a variety of different strategies and resources to ensure we are confident in these areas.

We will be learning lots of different songs during the Spring term and we will perform them in assemblies. We can’t wait to use our best singing voices and show everyone what we can do in the Easter assembly. We will incorporate music into our maths and topic lessons.

In PE this term, the children will be taught Hockey. The focus will be on stopping and passing skills, strategies and techniques. They will be taught the rules of the game and how to work tactically as a team.

In Science, we look at answering questions such as ‘where did all the food go?’ We will answer these questions by using the plan, do, review approach. We will also look at how does tooth paste protect our teeth? And finish the term off by look at what spit is for.

In RE, will be focusing on the following three key questions during the Spring term:

Q4: What is worship and how is it expressed (emphasis on worship in houses of worship)?

Q5: What art and craft activities do Chinese people engage in at New Year and why?

Q6: What is Lent and what do different Christians do during Lent and why?

Mindstorms using Sensors
This term the pupils are going to use block code to control the robots to complete given tasks. This introduces them to more complex algorithms. They are going to introduce multiple sessions to their programmes and apply this understanding to more complex problems.
