Grab your coat- we’re going out and about on a minibeast hunt! Sweep your nets in puddles and ponds and lift up logs to see who’s home. Then set up your own minibeast laboratory and observe every move. Add notes and labels and ask your own research questions- just like a real entomologist! Learn about bees, butterflies and worms too. Can you make a food chain to see who eats who? Carry out investigations to find out more. Carry out investigations to find out more, like how far a snail travels in a day and how a spider catches its prey. On your belly, legs at the ready, it’s time to wriggle and crawl!
Wriggle and Crawl
Power of Reading
During the Spring term, we will be reading “The Hungry Caterpillar”, “The bad tempered ladybird” and “The Busy Spider”. All of our writing will be topic related and we are so excited to predict what each book will be about and get to know the characters, setting and plot. We will be learning to write complex sentences, using the correct punctuation. We hope you get the chance to read some of our work!
In Maths, we will be looking at fractions where we will be able to find half, quarter and three quarters of an amount or an object. We will be learning about 2d and 3d shapes, looking at their properties and lines of symmetry. We will also be learning to use different methods of measurement including length, height, volume and weight. We will also be learning to tell the time up to 5 minutes.
We will be learning lots of different songs during the Spring term and we will perform them in assemblies. We can’t wait to use our best singing voices and show everyone what we can do. We will incorporate music into our maths and topic lessons too!
In P.E Year 2 will be learning to move in different ways using different parts of their bodies, just like insects to. Can you crawl on your belly and slide on your back?
In Science, we are finding animals in their habitats looking at where they live and what they need to survive. Our other topic will be learning how to grow food to make into some yummy soup! What vegetables would you like to grow?
In RE, will be focusing on the following key questions during Spring term:
Why should we love and forgive others?
How do Chinese families prepare their home for New Year?
Why are Easter and Pesach special for believers?
In ICT we will be learning to log on the computers using our own log in details. We will also be accessing software to create and animate bugs using Lego animate. Can you make a movie to make your bug look like it is moving across the floor?
