Towers, Tunnels and Turrets

Cornerstones Topic

Meet Rapunzel who lives in a tall, tall tower. Let’s build her a new one. Whose will be the tallest? Can we measure it? Then dig deep down going underground making burrows and tunnels just like the animals that live underground. This term will be full of exhilarating fun and we will learn so much along the way. We hope to visit a castle as well!

Power of Reading

During the Autumn term, we will be reading “Rapunzel”, “Rumpelstiltskin”, “The Princess and the Pea” and “The Dark”.  All of our writing will be topic related and we are so excited to predict what each book will be about and get to know the characters, setting and plot. We will be learning to write different types of sentences, using the correct punctuation. Exciting posters will be made as part of our topic. Come and visit our classroom to look at some of our fantastic work.

In Maths, we will be looking at place value and addition/subtraction. We will be using numbers and making sure we are confident with things we previously learned in such as; one more, one less, adding, taking away, making numbers in different ways etc

We will be learning lots of different songs during the Autumn term and we will perform them in assemblies. We can’t wait to use our best singing voices and show everyone what we can do. We will incorporate music into our maths and topic lessons.

PE is great fun but we must remember our PE kits!

Our focus this half term in Science will be materials. We will look at the properties of different materials and decide which materials are most suitable for different things. We will also be carrying out an investigation where we will observe the degradable properties of alive, dead and never been alive materials when they are placed in a jar of salty water for six weeks.

In RE, will be focusing on the following key questions during the Autumn term:

What do creation stories teach about God?

Why are holy books special?

In Computers, we will be learning to log on to the computer and use the software Paint, to draw a castle.
