Beachcombers

Cornerstones Topic

We will start this academic year looking at the topic Beachcombers. In this topic, we will be learning all about the seaside and the weird and wonderful animals and plants that live there.
In geography, we will be learning all about coastal features and in art we will begin to design and create our very own rock-pool resident.

Power of Reading

During the Autumn term, our Power of Reading texts will be “The Snail and the Whale” and “Tiddler”, both by Julia Donaldson. Our focus will be on narrative and we will be writing some character and setting descriptions as well as story retells. We will also spend time writing in role and performing our work to others in the class.

Mathematics

In Maths, we will be looking at number and place value alongside addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We will also be working on our problem solving and reasoning skills. To support us in our learning, we will be using a variety of tools and apparatus such as dienes and Numicon tiles.

Music

This term we will be learning lots of new songs that we will be singing to others during performances. Each week will have a music lesson where we will focus on using our voices to show expression and using a variety of musical instruments to create a beat.

P.E.

Over this half term we will continue to develop our skills in P.E. We will start the term off working on throwing and catching. In the second part of the term we will be focusing on healthy active lifestyles and circuit training.

Science

Our topic this half term will be “Living things and their Habitats”. This topic will link well with our “Beachcombers” topic and we will use our visit to the seaside to help us study sea creatures and plants in their natural habitat. We will also look at other animals and their habitats and look at different food chains.

R.E.

In RE we will be looking at Christianity and Judaism. We will look in detail at the beliefs that Christians and Jews have about God. We will use the knowledge that we have about Christianity to help us participate in the Christmas concerts.

Computing

This term we will be focusing on simple programming in I.C.T. lessons. We will be using computers and iPads to access the internet to help support us in our lessons and present information. We will also continue to look at e-Safety.
