Our topic, “Hola Mexico” covers lots of Geography, Art, Computing, DT, History, Music, PE and Science. In Geography we will be using maps to locate various places as well as finding similarities and differences in both human and physical features. In Art we will be learning about famous artists and developing our skills in a variety of techniques e.g. drawing and painting. Computing will involve using the internet effectively to research. DT, we will be creating a 3D mask of the day of the dead. We will have the opportunity to play and perform with a variety of musical instruments. During PE we will create dances to match our pieces of music. In Science we will use the idea that light travels in straight lines to help us understand shadows.
Power of Reading
Throughout Year 6, we will be continuing our journey to becoming fluent and competent readers who can infer and deduct. We will study Alvin Johnson and his popular stories about school life.
In Maths, we will be looking at area and perimeter and arithmetic mental skills; in particular how estimations can help with final answers. We will be using a spread sheet formula to help when calculating money problems.
We will be learning lots of different songs during the summer term and we will perform them in assemblies. We can’t wait to use our best singing voices and show everyone what we can do.
We will be doing athletics.
In Science, we are extending our current knowledge about light and electricity. We will find out how light travels and what happens when light hits an object. In our electricity unit we will find out how to make a circuit and what happens to energy as it flows through it.
In R.E. we will be focusing on:
Who were the 10 Gurus and how are they significant to Hinduism?
How I can use religious teachings about the natural world to establish an Ayresome charity aid?
How and why do religious people celebrate festivals (emphasis on Eid-ul-Adha)?
After Half term we will be completing Digital Resilience then working on Numbers and Data.
Year 6 will also be given the opportunity to use our new radio station. We will look and how a radio broadcasts its content and how to operate the radio mixing console. We will post produce articles and podcasts which will be put on the school website.
