Year 1 (Cherry, Fir, Walnut, Elm)
Year 1 are studying the story of ‘The Hundred Decker Bus’ by Mike Smith which will be helping us with our new topic of buses. We are going to be reading ‘The Naughty Bus’ by Jan and Jerry Oke in Guided Reading. We will be developing our writing skills (making sure we use a capital letter, a full stop and use finger spaces between words) and write a recount and a narrative. In spelling, we will be securing the common exception words – those tricky high frequency words we see all the time in our reading books.
Year 1 this half term, are learning about addition and subtraction within 20 number and place value within 50. We need to have a secure understanding of numbers to 50 and be able to add and subtract numbers within 20. We will use our knowledge to solve problems.
Our Year 1 topic is ‘Where do the wheels on the bus go?’ We will learn about the local geography of the area as well as looking at the countries that make up the United Kingdom. We will also be designing and making our own buses that will move!
Year 1 are discovering forces. We will identify the different forces that are around us and how we can enact forces on our environment.
Our focus questions in RE are ‘What symbols are important to Christians and/or Jews and why are these special?’ and ‘What stories are popular at Chinese New Year and why are they told at this time?’
